Spiced Keema

Spiced Keema is a South East Asian dish bursting with flavor and nutrition, which has become a family favorite of ours.

Spiced Keema
This dish is quick and easy to make, and only requires one pot (less dishes to wash!). This is healthy “fast food” at its best!

Traditional Keema includes minced meat, peas and potatoes. Here I have used sweet potatoes instead of regular white potatoes, and added green beans and carrots.

My 9-year old daughter once stated that she would happily eat this dish every day if given the chance! And it contains an amazing 5 of the 11 Cancer-Fighting Foods which I previously talked about.

We usually eat this dish with either rice or homemade Naan bread.

Cook Time 20 minutes minutes
Total Time 30 minutes minutes
Servings 6 people

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 500 grams (1 pound) ground beef
  • 400 grams (about 3 cups) sweet potatoes peeled and chopped
  • 200 grams (about 2 cups) green beans chopped
  • 2 large carrots chopped
  • 2 large tomatoes chopped
  • 2-3 tablespoons fresh cream

For the Spices

  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger (or 1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger)
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon natural salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Melt the butter in a large skillet and add the chopped onion. Cook for a few minutes, or until the onions become soft.
  • Add the ground beef and cook until well browned. While the beef is cooking, add the spices.
  • Add the tomatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, carrots, and 1/2 cup water. Cover the pan and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the vegetables have become soft. Check the dish while cooking and add more water if it starts to become dry.
  • Add the cream and stir well.
  • Serve with rice or fresh warm bread. Enjoy!
