Meet the mother-daughter team behind Dr. Laura’s Kitchen…
My mother and I started this blog when I was 9 years old and in 4th grade. I wanted to start a blog after I noticed that a lot of kids in my school bring really unhealthy food. And some kids don’t bring any food from home, but instead buy junk food from the cafeteria. EVERY DAY! This makes me really sad because this food might make them sick.
I love helping my mom in the kitchen to make healthy foods. I used to always want to buy junk food from the cafeteria like everyone else. But then my mom taught me about all of the horrible things this food can do to your body, and it’s really scary! I want to share what I’ve learned with all of you.
I’m an American Pediatrician and mother with a passion for healthy and natural living. I live in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and have 3 children.
I used to be a typical physician, handing out a new prescription for each patient I saw. The medications I gave usually treated my patient’s symptoms, but did little to actually solve their underlying problem. This is how I was trained, after all. As physicians, we receive very little education in nutrition or disease prevention.
But when I became a mother and my own children started to suffer health problems, I knew there must be a better way. My daughter was very hyperactive and had difficulty focusing, which was affecting her schoolwork. My older son suffered from a severe speech delay. And my 2 year old son suffered from severe eczema and woke up every night with his sheets covered in blood from the intense scratching! I knew there must be a better solution than to cover his little body in harmful steroid creams.
I then started to learn about all of the harmful chemicals we put in our foods, our cleaners, and our cosmetics, and what these chemicals do to our health. Unfortunately, staying healthy has become a challenge in today’s processed, artificial world. But alhamdulillah, I noticed dramatic changes in my family’s health when I began cutting out these unnatural ingredients and chemicals from our home…
- My daughter’s ability to focus improved greatly when we cut out refined sugar and artificial ingredients from our diets.
- My son’s speech dramatically improved within a few months’ time when he started drinking kefir (an incredibly beneficial cultured drink similar to laban, made from milk) and other forms of probiotics.
- My son’s eczema has completely resolved alhamdulillah! Here are some before and after shots of the back of his little leg…
I now strongly believe that the best way to treat illness is to prevent it, through healthy, natural, and nourishing foods.
This blog is my way of sharing some of the valuable information I have learned.
